“It Worked Out Perfectly” – Potgieter on His Five-for While Bowling for the First Time in SA20

As Potgieter puts it, “It Worked Out Perfectly.” All-rounder Delano Potgieter, bowling for the first time in the SA20 2025 season, put on an incredible display in MI Cape Town’s (MICT) opening game. He was not a consistent member of the team’s bowling attack. Still, he came through with a remarkable five-wicket haul to assist his team in defeating the two-time defending champion Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 97 runs in Gqeberha.

Rashid Khan’s Support

Rashid Khan, his captain, was praised by Potgieter for believing in him to bowl. “Everyone’s got different plans for different venues and all of that,” he said. “With the spinners George [Linde] and Rash [Rashid], we have a fantastic bowling lineup that includes KG [Rabada], Trent [Boult], and Boschy [Corbin Bosch].

They bowl most overs. Therefore, I didn’t have to bowl. Additionally, I was ecstatic when the captain tossed me the ball tonight. The outcome was flawless.”

A Performance That Changes Everything

With the bat and the ball, Potgieter had an unforgettable day. Earlier, he helped MICT to a respectable 174 for 7 with a vital unbeaten 25 off only 12 balls.

He was the team’s sixth bowler when he was given the ball in the second innings, and he had a fantastic stint, taking five wickets for just ten runs in three overs. Through his efforts, MICT defeated Sunrisers for the first time in five meetings.

Potgieter remarked about the team’s dismal record versus the Sunrisers: “I also looked at that stat this morning”. “It’s only the tournament’s first game, but starting with the win is nice.”

A Significant Occasion

Potgieter had never bowled for MICT in three SA20 seasons before this match despite having taken 34 wickets in 64 T20 matches. “I couldn’t ask for a better day for it,” he added, reflecting on the chance. “It went by so fast.

I decided to attempt hitting the top of the stumps while standing at the top of my mark; fortunately, it worked out flawlessly.”

Creating Momentum

MI Cape Town’s victory demonstrates the squad’s depth and adaptability, with players like Potgieter coming up when it was least anticipated.

Through the bpexch app, MICT fans can follow every development of the SA20 season, bringing them closer to their preferred players and games.

The squad will want to maintain this momentum in their pursuit of a successful season, and Potgieter’s heroics signal a strong beginning to the competition.
